Review

The modern and luxurious Hotel Fasano has one of the best locations in Rio, right in Ipanema. Designed by the architect Philippe Starck, everything in the hotel speaks comfort and luxury, making it one of the most sought-after places to stay in the city. The pièce de résistance, however, is definitely the rooftop terrace with its panoramic views across the bay and up to Corcovado.

The Fasano is located right in the heart of the Ipanema district, giving it the best location out of all of Rio's 5-star hotels. Just 15 minutes drive away from both Corcovado and Sugarloaf, the hotel is placed within easy reach of the city's main sites and within walking distance of some of the best restaurants and bars in Rio.

The hotel has 79 rooms and 10 suites, which all have balconies and are elegantly decorated with dark, hardwood floors, sumptuous furnishings and artistic touches such as Starck’s ear-shaped mirrors and chairs designed by Brazilian artist Sergio Rodrigues. The elegant design carries through to the marble appointed bathrooms, complemented by modern fittings.

A great deal of care and attention has been paid to the design and set-up of the rooms. For example, to make the most of the stunning views, all beds in Oceanfront rooms are positioned so as to face the sea. The suites are more spacious and feature additional amenities such as private bars, iPod docks, Espresso machines and bathtubs.

Built in a diamond shape to maximise sea views, the hotel is set over 7 floors and features a roof top pool area. On the ground floor you will find the hotel’s reception area, restaurant, spa and its take on the English pub. Taking the elevator up to the guest accommodation floors you will come across subtly lit corridors with heavy doors leading into guest rooms.

For us, the Fasano’s most unique feature is definitely the rooftop pool and bar with its panoramic views across Ipanema beach, Corcovado and the Morro dos Dois Irmãos. Focused on catering to every comfort, the Hotel also has a holistic spa, offering a variety of relaxation and beauty treatments, a Vichy shower room for hydro-treatments, and a fitness centre.

In addition to owning a Michelin star restaurant in Ipanema, the hotel also has an onsite restaurant, Fasano al Mare, which is run by a chef from the Michelin three-star Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with a heavy focus on seafood. For after dinner drinks, guests are encouraged to visit Rogério Fasano’s somewhat Italian take on the English pub, the Baretto-Londra, which opens between Thursday and Saturday and regularly hosts live music and renowned DJs.

Walking distance to bars and restaurants, good facilities, sleek design.

This hotel's privileged location and sleek design makes it an expensive choice.
