Colombia Family Holidays
A wealth of interest and diversity
Colombia may not be the first destination in South America that you would think of for a family holiday or vacation but it is somewhere that has a great deal to offer. From exploring the wilds of the Amazon jungle around Leticia, to learning how coffee is produced, to seeing the golden masks of the pre-Colombian cultures, to swimming with dolphin in the azure waters of the Caribbean, there is a lot to see and do.
As mentioned in the brief introduction above, there is an absolute glut of different activities and sites to see and do in Colombia. Below we have featured just a handful of featured destinations for each of these but there are plenty more things to do such as exploring the remote beaches of Tayrona National Park, taking a ride in one of the traditional American “Willys” jeep through the towering palms of the Cocora Valley, or even learning to scuba dive in the idyllic Providencia Island.
Another benefit to travelling around Colombia is that, due to the geographical lay of the land, with two fingers of the Andes range running north to the coast, short flights are usually the recommended way to travel rather than the long journeys that can be typical of the rest of South America. While it does put up the costs slightly, it means that you are then able to combine plenty of different experiences in a short space of time.
As with many of the countries of South America, there are plenty of Colombians who both travel and who have families both old and young. This means that most of the hotels are equipped to handle hosting children with hotel rooms often interconnecting and prices for children rooms coming down in price.
Below we have run through a few of our favourite locations for families to visit:
