Review

The Sheraton da Bahia is a large international style hotel in Salvador's Campo Grande district and is generally a choice for business travellers rather than leisure travellers. Nevertheless, due to the arty design and attention to detail throughout, we feel that this hotel doesn’t have an out-and-out business hotel feel and is a good option for travellers looking to stay in a modern hotel with lots of amenities.

Located in the leafy, upper-middle class, residential district of Campo Grande and close to many of the city’s top art museums and theatres, the Sheraton is located in between the historic centre of ‘Pelourinho’ and the Porto da Barra Beach area. While having to get taxis may not suit everyone, the hotel is well located for taking advantage of all that Salvador has to offer, including some of the city’s best restaurants.

Set over twelve floors, the hotel has been thoughtfully laid out, with a large lobby and bar as you walk in, a large restaurant with a terrace for outdoor dining and twelve floors of guest rooms and suites above.

Low lighting, wooden floors and art-deco furniture help to give the common areas of the hotel a 60s feel, while carefully placed pieces of artwork contributed by the famous sculptor Carybé and the photographer Pierre Verger are there to remind you that you are in Bahia.

The hotel’s 284 guest rooms and suites are tastefully decorated with muted colours, black –and-white photgraphs and luxe furnishings. In line with its modern finish, every room is equipped with a kettle or coffee machine, iPod dock and flat screen TV. Each room has large glass windows and therefore we would recommend staying on a higher floor for better views across the city. If you want the best, the suites on the top floor have private Jacuzzis on their balconies.

One of the key benefits of staying at the Sheraton is the range of amentities it offers, including a large fitness centre, L’Occitane Spa, sauna and outdoor swimming pool. If you happen to be staying outside of the working week; you will most likely have these facilities to yourselves!

Central location between the beach and the Pelourinho, good facilities and arty design.

Its location means you will have to rely more on taxis to get around
