Considered to be the best lodge in the Brazilian Amazon for wildlife enthusiasts, and voted one of the best ecolodges in the world, Cristalino Lodge is a very special property! With expert specialist guides from all over the world, comfortable accommodation designed to integrate with its surroundings and fantastic wildlife watching facilities, staying at Cristalino is a truly unique experience.

Cristalino Lodge is located in the southern Amazon, an hour’s drive and a 30-minute boat ride up the Rio Cristalino from Alta Floresta airport in the state of Mato Grosso. In a state where most of the rainforest has been cleared to make way for soya and cattle farming, Cristalino Lodge works through its conservation, education and ecotourism programs to maintain precious Amazon rainforest.

The first glimpse of the Lodge you get as you arrive by boat, is the large floating sun deck, which juts out into the river. Once on dry land, one trail leads off through the forest to the main common areas, including the restaurant, bar, deck and library and others lead off towards the Lodge’s 18 bungalows.

The Lodge has four different categories of accommodation ranging from superior rooms to independent bungalows. All of the buildings have been designed to blend in with their natural surroundings and are designed to have minimal impact on the environment. For example, the wooden structure provides a natural ventilation system using the breeze of the forest, while large windows made of glass or stainless steel nets allow you to look out into the forest from your bedroom.

Set within a rainforest reserve the size of Manhattan, guests have the opportunity to explore 25 km of forest trails, spot wildlife on river boat or canoeing trips and climb the lodge’s two 50m-tall steel observation towers to spot birds and monkeys hiding within different layers of the forest, all accompanied by expert guides from all over the world. Watching the sunrise or the sunset over the canopy of the forest is absolutely spectacular and well worth the climb!

In between activities, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Lodge’s restaurant. The chef prepares delicious Brazilian food, using seasonal fruit and vegetables grown at the lodge and locally sourced meat and fish. After dinner, guests can then relax by the open fire and talk over the adventures they’ll be having on the next day.

Much easier to access than Manaus, excellent guiding, facilities and eco-credentials.

All of these fantastic features mean it isn't the cheapest option unfortunately.
